Pretty much, from my understanding, it doesn't matter. The qualifying offers expire on the 20th. Doesn't mean much, the team keeps the rights for anyone who they qualified but now don't even have to offer them the minimum qualifying offer past that point. So it wouldn't affect someone like Brodie who's obviously going to get more than his qualifying offer. But let's say Byron doesn't sign his qualifying offer (2-way $616,000) on the 20th and negotiations end up sour for him as they reach training camp the Flames could offer him league minimum $525,000 2-way contract and if no other team would be willing to offer more, he'd be close to out of luck.
