Well if there's anything that can't be questioned about this city, it's the passion for hockey.
If some idiot from BC, or Toronto or whatever says otherwise, then he's only kidding himself. Just cause we may not have widespread representation currently (bandwagoners are busy jumping behind contenders) doesn't mean we aren't as hockey crazed, or more than other Canadian cities. Every single FA mentions that when signing here. Not just because we're above the border, but because they see it coming through town with their previous clubs.
What I don't understand is players trying to get away from that attention though. (like Horton) Sure, it may be exhausting at times, but if you're tired of being in the spotlight for the profession that you're in, and in his case, playing on a competitor, then you should be done and retired. That's the whole point you get into the highest level of the sport, otherwise you're basically a floater looking for a payday.
