I still think it is unlikely that Cesc would agree to move to United but, regardless, Arsenal's position is very strong if what I've read is the truth. In addition to a Buy-Back clause, they also have a clause that would see them take 50% of the portion of a transfer fee over £25m. This is what's probably driving Barca to get as high a fee as possible.
Barca might not even want other clubs to bid for Cesc until he signs a new contract. However, even if a club does submit a suitable bid Arsenal could still hijack the deal with the Buy-Back clause. With Arsenal needing some creativity in the midfield, I think they would jump at the chance of being able to bring Cesc back home... away from home.
Even if Arsenal were not prepared to bring him back, I think they are now in a position where they could play spoilers for other clubs. Why not screw over United?
