I'd think not as if he was giving Zimmerman head shots rather than go after the gun.

During the Trial they did a recreation of the attack by Martin where the prosecutor was interviewing a police officer (I think) and the prosecutor straddled over the dummy banging its head into the ground and he asked the witness where the gun would have been. The witness replied that it was tucked into Zimmerman's belt or waistline (I'm fuzzy) under neath Martin's left thigh.
So the theory that Zimmerman had pulled the gun out early went out the window. Instead the theory was that the gun only came into play after Zimmerman was pinned to the ground being beaten and he reached down underneath Martin's thigh pulled out the gun and shot.
