how many cities in the world have hosted Olympics more than once?
I would think that having this facilities up to snuff would be for the community that would be using them year round. Not for a one off event. Look at the Oval in Richmond, it is now an amazing facility for all sports, year round, not just speed skating.
I think that these facilities futures should consider what they can be used for on a daily basis and not what major events they can host. The Saddledome is a building with lots of history but if it can't be used in a productive manner for the community on a daily basis once a new one has been built, then maybe it is worth it to tear down and create more space for something else.
Upgrading everything to new state of the art equipment because of this flood is probably not the best plan. I can't imagine them doing this, it doesn't seem like it would be worth if the new building is being built within the next 3 to 4 years.
