I think a two year deal at a nice cap hit (below $2.5M) is a good deal for both sides. Brodie gets a bit more security and the team gets a player who will most likely play top 4 minutes at a low cap hit. Realistically, the best combination of term and cap hit will probably come in a deal that ends right when Brodie is eligible to be a UFA. For a team that hasn't had trouble keeping their own players, it's not such a bad option. But I would agree with Feaster that signing Brodie to a 6-8 year contract simply doesn't make sense.
