All things being equal if Gaudreau were to become a UFA ala Shultz and could pick his team to start his NHL career with, he would pick a team with a bunch of huge physical players and not a lot of small talented ones.

It would be far easier to start out playing on a line with Richards and Carter or Kopitar and Brown rather than Stajan and Hudler.

How comforting would it be to have at least one of Chara, Boyckuck, mcQuaid or Seidenberg on the ice for every shift.


If the Flames are still the smallest team in the league (or one of the smallest 5) this time next year if I were an agent I would advise Gaudreau to stay the extra year and pick a team that would afford him the best opportunity to have a long NHL career.
