The Bonuses only allow you to go over the cap by the amount of the bonuses, similar to how you can go over from players on LTIR. The difference between the amount of cap available and the bonuses remaining beyond that gets put as a penalty the following season. This happened once before when Toews won the Conn Smythe as he had a bonus of 1 million if I recall correctly if he won that specific award, and they were penalized close to that the following year (the year they had to ditch Ladd and Byfuglein).
