The brunt of the article wasn't on players though, it was on organizations and their habits.
The Oilers were big culprits in that time frame for taking players that were sliding (Henrich, Riesen, Rita), while the Devils I think were the poster boys for going off teh board.
The teams with conviction far outweighed the falling star teams in their overall success ratio.
If you hire idiots then conviction is scary, you can't avoid that.
But if you believe the Flames have a new direction under Weisbrod then you're glad they have conviction.
Bottomline though ... it's always fair to compare the next three players taken after a draft pick. Further than that is unfair.
