I understand that many players if they lose out on the hart or norris will just announce that those awards dont matter its just the cup that matters in the end. However when it comes to the hall of fame dont we fans and media always debate personal achievements on one of the criteria of getting in?

On top of that, this could have had huge financial implications as well. Luckily didn't or this becomes a bit more of just a minor embarrassment. Even though I'm sure most people wouldn't lose sleep over a millionaire hockey player not receiving an exta million, that very easily could have been the case for Hall.

Hall would receive a bonus of 2M (before being pro-rated for the shorten season) had he been in the top 10 for assists or been named to one of the two All-Star teams. It was only during the last game of the season that he managed to sneak into the top 10 with 2 assists against the Canucks. Had Vancouver shut him out, he would have been out a ton of cash because of voter incompetence.
