And those consequences are that the rabble will be angry? Maybe for a short period but that'll all wash away after he retires and besides he's not in the business of pleasing a fanbase that he has already pleased for 10+ years, he's trying to win a cup and get paid to do so.
He'll still have his number retired. He'll still hold a number of Flames' records. He'll still be the face of an era for this franchise. None of that will change, because it can't change.

No attempt at subtle rhetoric, but I can understand the acusation. My thought process was meerly:
- Find a well know example that people will recognize
- Find something that will be easily identifiable as a right, but also the majority would understand as something not taken kindly too by those impacted (assumed the bulk would feel adultery is not a nice thing).
- Use it to clarify the difference between ones Rights and potential impacts of actions.
As for the rest of your post, I actually agree. 10 years after Iggy retires, I'm guess the bulk of the fan base will forgive a stint with the Nucks (although maybe less if he actually wins a cup with them) and all will be forgiven. But for the next 10 years, I think this will impact his relationship with this city, the fans and the org. But as you point out, that's up to him.
