Pretty easy. They were scouting Poirier heavily and they know who the scouts from other teams are so it was a simple matter of noticing which team's scouts were there the nights that Poirier dominated and which teams kept watching Poirier closely all season.
It is the same way they knew which teams liked Jankowski last year and therefore how far they could trade down safely and still take him.
There's lots of strategy around these picks. Feaster, Weisbrod and Button are not the simpletons that some make them out to be.
