From what I heard on the Dreger interview that i posted in the trade speculation thread the Flames were the team that backed out of the deal at the draft. The rumor there was 6th pick + Johnny which is likely fair value but I am glad they kept the pick as I am very big on Monahan.
Having said that if Seguin is on the block I really hope the Flames are still kicking tires. The "rumor" posted by an annonymous blogger on hockeybuzz (who says he doesn't post rumors unless the source is decent) was Johnny + Backlund + 2nd for Seguin with other pieces (primarily salary coming back to the Flames being added). Personally I would do Jonhhny + Backlund + Glencross for Seguin + Peverley which frees up an easy $4M for the Bruins assuming Backlund signs for $2.5M (could sign for less even).
To me the only true untouchables are Monahan, 2014 1st and Sven (unless the deal is 1 for 1 which it wouldn't be). I also think Boston will not trade Seguin after calling him out in public. I think they shopped him, and when they couldn't find a deal that worked they publically blasted him in hopes it acts as a wakeup call. However we hear about Boston being in on Lecavilier, and now Briere and Alfie. Theyt do not have the cap space to sign one of those guys and give Rask the $7M per deal that is being rumored. If the B's trade one of Seguin, Lucic, Marchand it will likely be Seguin and they will want that team to take Peverley and/or Kelly back as well while sending a top end prospect and some cheap players that can contribute today.
Personally I am all for trading for a 21 year old first line C and using Gaudreau as the centrepiece.
