Drafting Monahan was the last on the list. Not because do I think Monahan is a bad player, but doesn't scream "franchise player" and I really wanted us to draft/trade for one.
However, reading up on him, reading his interview, I'm starting to warm up to him. Hopefully, he becomes that #1C we've been looking for.

1) That's a weird thing to be upset about, as you admit it was never going to happen
2) It would have cost more then just that for Seguin and I worry about why a team is giving up on such a young player so early
3) Well, if you're upset about this then you're upset about this. I question why though. In the Monahan-Lindholm debate thread I wanted Monahan but Lindholm is a top notch prospect too. Fans tend to get too focused on their guy and the tunnel vision blocks out the positives of other players.
As for Monahan... if he develops he'll be a number one centre. Not in the Crosby, Malkin, Thornton, area. But more along the lines of Jonothan Toews. You won't see Monahan pop 50 goals and 100 points like those guys but he'll be a 30 goal, 70-80 point guy... all the while being the leader you need, playing physical, playing the two-way all situations type guy.
He's an excellent building block.
