True, which is why a guy like Monahan didn't drop much really (3rd to 6th if you count from the start of the season). Monahan played with some decent linemates as well in Ottawa (Toffoli being one), but had absolutely nobody else on the forward ranks to play with in this past season. Hunter was 4th in scoring on his team this season (3rd maybe?) - so he still had better players than Monahan. Monahan didn't drop (think his PPG slightly increased as he played less games).
I think Shinkurak has talent, but a lot of holes in his game as well (not known for being defensive), questions about how his game will translate (smaller, perimeter player) and seemingly questions about his attitude or character. He does possess tremendous finishing ability (elite I think), and I do think he is a very good competitor. Put the flaws in his game with the good (even discounting his supposed character issues) and there are enough question marks to him to see him slide I think.
Maybe last year he was seen as a kid who could drive offence and finish. This year, maybe the thought was he will only be a good scorer, but very one-dimensional? Just throwing out some ideas..
