These guys do watch the World Juniors and McGuire is crazy.

Yup that's my point, the tsn guys watch about as much junior hockey as the average fan, ie, the world juniors and the odd game on sports net, or a game or two that rolls through Vancouver, Calgary, or Edmonton. They don't have the time to watch these kids like real scouts do for a living, therefore, their opinion isn't much better than you or I. They are paid to be knowledgable in the NHL and that's a big enough area to cover. They are not experts on junior hockey. Just like how Michel Goulet doesn't have Tod Button's knowledge of junior players.
Anyways, time will tell whether the Flames screwed up by passing on Shinkaruk but based on stats, highlights, and discussion by people who have actually watched Poirier (apparently he went head to head with Mackinnion and Drouin in the playoffs and more than held his own), I'm pretty excited about the pick.
