Regardless it doesn't nullify his contract, he could either toll the year or not (which he wouldn't), but the remaining years on his contract would still remain. He would be suspended so that the Canucks don't have to pay him, but if they didn't the contract wouldn't just disappear. Luongo (who is still an elite goaltender) doesn't get paid and the Canucks don't have a #1 goaltender, it is a lose-lose proposition.
