I actually find his skating stride intriguing, as it seems very in line with what I've been told regarding recent research into skating strides and speed. The low centre of gravity ( which gives him that bow-legged awkward look), combined with the number of strides, not length, is what makes him quick.
His burst gives him great separation, which to me will help him greatly when he first comes into the league as it could help him keep the puck long enough to make things happen, something that a lot of rookies seem to struggle with.
