- Obviously a big focus was on our first round and I think the Flames did very well. All three players have excellent skill sets, work ethics and play a good two-way game. Most important for me, great attitudes and leadership qualities it seems. We need people who will help shape a new culture for the team.

- To go with the above, I love the emphasis the Flames seem to be putting on the attitude of the player they draft. Baertschi as an example from last year as well - obviously has skills but reportedly also has a great attitude and work ethic of always wanting to get better. Very important when drafting IMO and it seemed like in a lot of the interviews and analysis I heard today of the players we drafted the positive attitude was evident.

- Like the mix of the picks we made on a variety of fronts - Positions, skills, different leagues, ages, projects, "safe, sure things" vs. "high risk, high reward" type picks. Lots of variety.

- As an aside, regarding the Poirier vs. Shinkaruk pick. When I start to suddenly see teams passing up on a guy who was supposed to go way higher in the draft for no apparent reason, red flags pop up. Not saying this was the case here but perhaps there's something going on behind the scenes none of us are privy to that caused a bunch of teams to pass on him. I also like what kind of a player Poirier is and think he was a good pick regardless. Seems as the dust settles and people take a breath others might be re-evaluating their initial opinion as well.

Overall 7/10 for me.
