Wasn't going to mention this earlier cause I was a day late and the OP probably has it looked at already, but it should be fine. I once had to bore a hole through the nail of my thumb right in the center of the nail to relieve the pressure on a particularly nasty under nail blood blister. The kind caused by very localized, very strong blunt force. Forget what caused it actually, it wasn't a hammer or anything like that. I actually wanna say it was a hockey puck. Anyway, I remember my self surgery more than the incident. It actually wasn't that bad and really helped. Anyway, as long as you keep it clean every day, there should be no problems. It'll grow out, shouldn't snag or cause further pressure. Won't even be able to tell in 4-6 weeks.
