It probably has to do with the 48 hour buyout window after the Finals.
If the Finals had gone 7 games, the Cup would have been awarded on Wednesday night, which would have meant the buyout window wouldn't have opened until last night. That would have meant that any team wanting to execute a compliance buyout would have put those players on waivers today at noon, and they would have cleared tomorrow at noon.
If the Draft was held today before those buyouts could occur, it would have impacted some teams ability to make trades at the Draft.
