I spent the day in Bowness tearing up and cleaning a couple of basements. One of the houses on Bow Cr. near the curve of the river (unbelievably close to the river) had extensive damage on the main level as well - the river was basically flowing through the house during the flood. Almost the whole house is down to studs.
The clean up is getting closer to the point where there's less to do for regular citizens without specialized skills. Nevertheless, definitely go out there and help how you can - even things like shoveling mud is greatly appreciated, it seems, by those affected.
There's also going to be a bunch of parks cleanups too, so keep an eye out for that if you're interested in volunteering.
