The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society said this morning that the gun nuts in High River are basically killing people's pets.

HIGH RIVER UPDATE. On behalf of the rescuers in High River.
Volunteers are currently trying to evacuate the animals out of High River. We are being contacted by dozens of worried pet owners who are frantic to get their animals back.
Sadly, today the rescue effort was brought to a halt due to the protest by evacuated residents that took place at the barricade.
We have heard that there is another protest scheduled for tomorrow, possibly at multiple barricades. Whenever an event happens in or around town, our RCMP escorts have to leave us to deal with the situation. As we cannot go anywhere without RCMP officers to accompany us, we must just sit and wait until they can return.
Every time someone causes a disturbance at the barricades, we are then unable to get people's pets out. We understand how upset & frustrated the residents of High River are and we also fully support your right to protest. However, unfortunately the protests are causing us to be unable to rescue the animals, not to mention hindering other work progressing in High River.
We would like to ask all of you to please be patient and let everyone do the work that needs to be done in town. High River is simply not safe in many areas and there is so much left to do. We have a lot of animals that still need to be evacuated and every hour counts. Please be patient and help us to get the animals out!
