We have 3 Bichon/Shih Tzu dogs. My two youngest don't seem to be allergic to every dog but we were never sure which dogs they would react to, and which they wouldn't, aside from the typical hypoallergenic dogs, such as we have now. So that's what we started with.
We had a poodle once, when they were quite young - a toy poodle. He wasn't a yapper, like some can be. Decent enough dog, as long as he was happy with what you were doing, where he was concerned. If he didn't like it, he was the most vindictive little turd ever. He destroyed a lot of stuff. We had a gargantuan entry way at the time, that was closed off to the rest of the house, and so if we had to go to the store or whatever, then we'd leave him in there, with some of his toys and food/water. 99% of the time, I was home, so he rarely got left alone.
But if you left him home to run errands or whatever? Man, what a rotter. We had to make sure there was absolutely nothing he could grab and rip apart. We once left out one of a set of stacking stools (padded), thinking it would be fine. Nope. Got home and he'd jumped up on top of it and absolutely ripped it to shreds. Drove us nuts. We will never own another dog that's a poodle or has poodle in it.
