As much as I think the time was right to move Tanguay, its pretty disappointing to see the implications of having to move someone who has both (1) checked out on the team despite having a contract which should suggest otherwise and (2) has the ability to control their own trade value by limiting the market in which they can be traded.
Tanguay was a ###### to the Flames in the Sutter era too. Good riddance. Probably one of my most hated Flames of all time. He rides along when times are good, ditches when times aren't or aren't to his own liking.
I hope the Flames have learned that NMC/NTC are cancerous. They severely impact trade value and should only be given in very specific situations. The trajectory of a player's performance depends not just on their ability, but their commitment to the team. Once they have a contract, they can check out on their commitment to their team, with little adverse repercussions.
Colorado won this trade by every metric except size and age. Jones is at best a reclamation project. I'm glad the Flames are now "bigger", and perhaps we are gearing up to get tougher as well, but damn, removing our scoring elements without replacement is looking like... very high draft picks for the forseeable future.
