I like the trade a lot actually, the only things we will miss from Tanguay are the things he just isn't doing as well anymore and he was starting to become easily pushed around and less shifty with the puck. We were really, really weak at RW to start the season but with Jones I think we have our 2nd line RWer now who can get PP minutes and PK minutes as well. Perfect line pairing for me is Glencross - Backlund - Jones a line in which I can definitely see the potential shut-down ability, big bodies on the wings with a good two-way center who has some vision, and all players have demonstrated soft hands as well at points of their careers. Tons of potential for the line-up with just this one move already. I don't think we can fairly judge the trade until the bigger picture of this off-season for the Flames is seen more clearly but just looking at it as a pure hockey trade it's hard not to like it for the Flames:
- Get a 5 years younger forward who is 500k more /year for the same amount of term but without a NMC or NTC.
- Get a 5 years younger D-man who is the same amount of money but has 1 more year on the term who has put up comparable numbers to Sarich over the last 5 years and has played in more games than Sarich has in 4 of the last 5 seasons. We're basically getting a younger Sarich Lite.
- We get rid of two players who really didn't want to be here anymore and bring in two of those 'Apex' players that Feaster speaks of, these guys are currently in the prime of their careers respectively while Tanguay and Sarich are clearly on the decline
- Gets rid of one of the many LWers that were clogging this team up, that's why Tangs was tried out at center in the first place, and depending on how he adapts to the Flames system we get a desperate team need filled in a top 6 RW spot with Jones.
Can't wait to see more Feaster, keep em comin!
