Next season is a wash anyhow, I really don't expect the Flames to finish higher than 25 or so to me it's no big deal that a disinterested player and an aging player are out the door.
The hope here is that Jones can maybe find some chemistry with someone and regain his old form. With regard to SOB, Flames need some bitterness (might be stupidity at times) in front of the net...SOB brings that.

To add to your post, the Flames may have needed an overpriced contract to stay above the floor of the salary cap.
I'd rather have a young big player who wants to play than an old slowing player who wants out.
