Awful. Just AWFUL.

Looking ahead, this is what the Flames have to look forward to.

Wideman - Brodie
Giordano - Butler
Smith - Cundari
Sarich

Yup, essentially zero change. So once again, we can expect Calgary's defence to be awful in the 2013/2014 season.

But wait, there's light on the horizon...

Brodie - Wotherspoon
Sieloff - Morrissey
Ramage - Cundari
Breen

If Calgary manages to land someone like Morrissey in the first round on Sunday, this is the d-corps they will be able to ice in the 2014/2015 season. This would be a huge boon for this franchise, but in order to make it happen, they need to trade away guys like Wideman, Butler, Giordano, Sarich and Smith.

My biggest hope for this draft is that Feaster somehow figures out how to move these guys out to make room for the kids.
Don't count your chickens before they hatch. In all likelihood, only 2-3 of Wotherspoon, Sieloff, Morrissey, Ramage, Cundari, and Breen stick as legitimate NHLers, let alone top-4 guys. The Flames need to draft a couple more stud defencemen (probably in the top 15) before our d-core projects as anything but terrible.
