I feel that a lot can go right for the Flames here;- Use all three picks on players that turn into regular NHL players and at least two of them major contributors. I don't feel this is too much to ask given the perceived depth in this draft.
- Trade up to get Barkov can be a franchise changer if he fulfils projections
I also feel a lot can go wrong for the Flames here;- Maybe it's just me but I get the feeling these three 1st round picks are burning a hole in Feaster's pocket and that one or more of them will be dealt for returns that don't make a lot of sense like turning a 1st into two 2nd round picks or tradking a 1st for another stop gap player.
- Flames pick a goaltender in the 1st round. It simply hasn't worked for the franchise......ever. This also deals a crushing lack of confidence blow to all the young goaltenders in the organization despite a couple of them looking just as good as Fucale who may or may not be a great goaltender as it's hard to gauge how good a goaltender is when he backstops such a dominant team.
- Draft Nichushkin with the 6th pick. This is low on my list of fears because he doesn't fit the profile Weisbrod says in that they are looking for players that legitametly want to be a Flame and is proud to wear the jersey. Drafting Nichushkin would be a complete 180 from their supposed draft strategy.
I do fear also what is out of the Flames control in that if they and the Oilers stay 6,7 that if the Flames pick one of Lindholm/Monahan that the Oilers get the other guy and he turns out to be the better player and have the better career. This is out of the Flames control as nobody has a crystal ball but the optics would suck as it would be something that the Flames fans would have to face every time the two teams play each other.
