I remember that game differently than most do. Sure, Dallas had the majority of the shots on goal, and had possession the majority of the time, but aside from that Modano one you described (which was Dallas' only scoring chance of the entire game, IMO), there was absolutely no way Dallas was going to score. You weren't going to score in a million shots on goal with every shot coming from a long ways away with no screen in front.
I thought the Flames played that game great with a lead. They saw that Dallas didn't intend to go anywhere the net, and let them blow the clock by passing the puck around the outside, and take easy to save shots.
Of course, the team can be more comfortable playing that way when they know their goalie is playing well. But I honestly think that nearly any goalie in the league could have had a shutout for the Flames that night. I've never seen a team with so many shots have so few real chances to score.
