Well, like talking about gun-control after a school shooting, I think it's natural to talk about something while it's relevant in the news. If not now, when? There are definitely a-hole insensitive ways to go about it (ie, Andy G.), but I think it's a legitimate discussion we should probably have before people forget and move on. And people will move on if you give them enough time...just look at how soon America forgot about the Connecticut shootings.
I don't think "deserved" is the right word, but I do think the word "consequences" is fair to use. We've had two "100-year" floods in less than a decade...chances are there's a reason for that. How much of that is climate change related, I don't know, but I do think it's at least partially responsible. It's not just Alberta-related either of course...increased extreme weather activity seems to be happening everywhere around the world.
