Default Blues Draft Day

The day started with a bang, waking up to hit accept on a trade from the Stars that saw young top line Center Derek Stepan sent to Dallas along with the #9 and #20 overall picks in the draft for the highly sought after #1 pick.

With it, the Blues selected future superstar Nathan Mackinnon who we look forward to building around in a couple of years. After that, the Blues didn't select again until late in the 2nd round but with their remaining picks, were quite pleased with who they ended up with.

2nd Round
#58 - C Vincent Dunn - 6'0 184 lbs
NHL Pick #137 - Ott (-79 Ouch!)
Youngest kid in the draft and scored at a PPG pace in the Q. Feisty agitator that can score and has good hockey IQ. Ranked 73rd among NA skaters by NHL Central Scouting.

3rd Round
#64 - C Miro Aaltonen - 5'11 172 lbs
NHL Pick #176 - Ana (-112 )
Had a great start to season but broke ankle at WJC. Has some scouts raving but definitely a risk. Would've liked to take him a bit later but didn't see him making it to my next pick at 99.

4th Round
#99 - LW Remi Elie - 6'2 205 lbs
NHL Pick #40 - Dal (+59 That's better)
Ranked 71st among NA skaters, Elie plays a tough grinding game but has the skills to be a scoring threat. Has been stuck behind a deep OHL roster but expected to play a much bigger role in his 2nd season.

#120 - D Mitch Wheaton - 6'5 230 lbs
NHL Pick #138 - NYI (-18 Can live with that)
Ranked 69th with NA skaters, Wheaton has a massive frame and plays a very smart, stay at home position who is rarely beat by opponents.

Thanks to Grant for running that #### show and keeping it so well organized, I would've F'd that all up for sure as it's hard enough just drafting and keeping up. Well done everyone for getting it done in just over 3 hours too though, seemed relatively smooth.

Good luck to everyone's new prospects!

[Edit] Pretty massive differences in my middle few picks but had to be expected in such a rich draft. Was thrilled to see Remi go so high but didn't realize I had missed so bad on a couple others, haha.

Oh well, added another 2nd and 3rd round NHL picks from Minny for a 2014 2nd so that really helps make up for the drops in some of my picks. Thanks to Grant for the quick deal.
