I wasn't trying to make a political statement, I was just trying to give perspective to people who may not have been around during that very dark time. This whole situation sucks the big one, but for the better part, we are talking about 'things' that will be replaced, and for the better part, people are going to be fine very soon. That was not the case back then.

You didn't lose everything. You had all of your personal effects, all of your pictures and mementos and everything. These people lost EVERYTHING. Have a look at the houses in Bragg Creek or High River where the floods have clearly destroyed those peoples possessions. People have died in the severity and thousands have been evacuated. I'm not going to argue this with you, basically because its the completely wrong thing to do. But people losing their homes in the midst of a global economic recession is not comparable to people heading to work when all is well Thursday morning and then finding out they lost their homes.
