Fox News reporter Carl Cameron wrote a story that contained bogus Kerry quotes following this week's debate.

Link: Fox News - Oops, sorry

"Didn't my nails and cuticles look great? What a good debate!?'' Kerry said Friday.

"It's about the Supreme Court. Women should like me! I do manicures''

Sadly, many Americans may have seen this and the damage is done.

And this is the news network that Canadians are craving. It's all flash over substance. Somewhere, Edward R. Murrow is spinning in his grave.
"the item was based on a reporter's partial script that had been written in jest"

That's obviously the only truthful thing in the story.

If you quizzed most reporters you would probably find they've done something similar to amuse themselves at one time or another . . . . most wouldn't have had it grabbed out of their file by an editor, taken seriously and posted on a website.

The fault lies with the editor in this case if you ask me. That in turn goes to the issue of whether or not FOX is biased and the fact an editor would believe John Kerry would say such obviously phoney baloney quotes might give critics of the network some evidence.

In this case though, I wouldn't blame the reporter unless he had inserted those in a legitimate story he knew was going to print at some point. It didn't look like it.
