Or, trade for him now, get him for the whole year. If Stempniak was being shopped at this year's trade deadline, he would have gotten a first rounder easily. He may have gotten the biggest return of any Flames' trade.

You're terribly overrating Stempniak's value. Feaster barely got a guaranteed first round pick for Iginla because there weren't that many teams willing to move a first round pick. Other guaranteed first round picks moved for a forward was for Pominville. Stempniak had a good season production wise, but he's considered a 2nd line/3rd line guy on a contender.
