It is still important to have players across the age and experience spectrum. The Flames are hurting for the guys in their prime (25-29 or so). Gio is certainly tradeable with a good return, but I wouldn't want an entire team of youngsters without any leadership or experienced veterans to lend guidance. Gio is likely more valulable to the Flames than any other franchise.

I think the problem with the Oilers is the overall way their team is constructed, not necessarily their demographics.
Very poor defence and mediocre goaltending can't be masked by having two small, skilled top lines.
