Having a good goalie for the rebuild is good for a "winning" culture. It is good for the kids to have a goalie that can give you a legitimate chance to win games every night just based on his performance.
Personally, I am fine with seeing how Ramo/Berra/MacDonald do this year and going for another good draft next summer but I certainly would be happy if we managed to land Bernier for a cheap/reasonable price right meow.

The Flames are going to have trade youth/draft picks in order to get Bernier. No point in depleting your forward/defence prospect depth if you believe you have goalie prospect that will turn into a NHL starter. Maybe I'm being optimistic but I see Gillies being the guy in 3 years. If Gillies turns out to be a disappointment in 3 years then you can trade for a goalie.
