The player we would pick at 22 will be similar to a guy picked 12-14 in past years and the one at 28 would be more in the 18-22 range.
We can finally have a good prospect pool after decades of being one of the worst teams in that regard and instead we're looking at throwing that away when we are nowhere near ready to return to being decent.

I can get on board with what you're selling, cagedgreat. I think where I'm coming from is the fact that we just don't have that franchise player and that's what Mackinnon would be. I agree that you can't ignore everything to get that franchise player, but what I struggle with is that I believe getting that franchise player to build around is the toughest task in a rebuild, and we're pretty close in this draft, and yet so far away, and if they would agree to that trade, I just think you do it, and then work on aquiring more picksin the upcoming drafts, where we'll still be a weak team.
It's a catch 22, you give up too many picks to aquire that franchise player, and you end up with a superstar and not enough of a supporting cast to do anything special, or you could build a strong supporting cast, but never succeed aquiring/growing that franchise player, and you end up with a strong supporting cast built around no one in particluar and you're just as far away from being a contender.
