The Flames are going to suck so badly for the next two or three seasons that they will have an honest shot at one of those star players in future drafts. It would be stupid to trade away three firsts in a deep draft. Also, there is still potential that you'll get a star player player with one of those picks. Corey Perry went 28th in 2003. So looking back at that draft would you trade Milan Michalek, Mark Stuart and Corey Perry for M-A Fleury?
