They are not providing a friendly developer system at all though. They mentioned their support of indie developers during their press conference and just showed Minecraft. Sony trotted out indie developer after indie developer at E3 on and off the stage. Microsoft been getting bad press from indie developers for the last few years. Xbone is specifically not allowing self publishing unlike the PS4.
Bottom line is that most people are seeing from Xbone is that you are being forced to ask for permission to play games you bought every 24 (or one) hours. You'd be getting a system that some are calling 1/3 less powerful than the PS4 based on released specs. You are forced to buy, install, and power additional mic and camera in your living room. All at
an additional cost of $100 more to it main competitor with the public perception that Microsoft is saying - "Deal with it"
Frankly, Microsoft hasn't provided a coherent message about why/what customers get for the additional cost and burden. If they did, then at least there would be some measure of parity or comparison. But it has been a complete mess.
