Sinopoli steals the show during Stamps’ mock game

On Sunday, Sinopoli served notice of his intention of cracking the lineup at his new position for the 2013 season with five catches in the Red vs. White mock game at McMahon Stadium.
On a day where the offence struggled mightily to move the ball — no matter the identity of the quarterback — Sinopoli stood out for all the right reasons.
“Brad did an excellent job of catching the football in a crowd,” said head coach/general manager John Hufnagel.

These are early days, but count quarterback Drew Tate among the folks impressed with the potential displayed by No. 3.
“He caught the ball well,” Tate said. “He’s running routes well. He’s seeing things. He knows what he’s doing. He seems to have a lot of confidence.”
Confidence and silky hands to boot.
“It doesn’t surprise me,” Tate said. “Last year, the guy was running routes on scout team, and he was doing exactly what he is doing now.
“The guy catches everything.”

As a career pivot, Sinopoli could have sulked when he realized his time at the position was drawing to a close. But he dedicated himself over the winter to the long journey of mastering a new craft.
He realized there’s no sense wasting energy over what might have been.
“I just wanted to play football, to be honest with you,” he said. “I was just happy to have another chance.”
And happy — based on his high school experience — at having a chance that doesn’t involve lining up as the quarterback of the defence at free safety.

“Whatever makes me keep playing football,” he said, “that makes me happy.”
