Essentially, my friend used to be a hard core gang banger and into drugs (coke, acid, etc) ... one day got into rock climbing and gave up a ghetto lifestyle to become a world class, sponsored athlete. I actually have another friend, same story (ghetto of San Jose) who actually walked into a gym one day high on acid... the staff gave him a some rentals to try it out for free, and it was the last day he did drugs. He cut cold turkey, that day... today he is working in Yosemite National Park, as he describes it, "living the dream" (I think he's just washing dishes, but he loves it out there)
