I don't know what he's thinking, but if he plans to coast to a Cup on the coattails of Crosby and Malkin, he'd better rethink that strategy.

He doesn't have it, Mach. Doesn't have the extra gear, too stubborn/incapable of adapting his game to be more effective and seemingly unwilling to do the difficult things it takes to consistently win. Holding back? How likely is that? He should have been fired up for game one of the conference final, and there was certainly enough effort from his teammates to stimulate that, but he came out flat and seemingly unfocused, Game 7 Anaheim style.
He doesn't have it in him to play that game and now that he's gone it's easier to contemplate that he never did. Other posters have said it, he's playing the same way he has for years, it's just that it looks appalling when you're playing with players who are half-way decent against teams that are half-way decent in games that are half-way meaningful and not against teams like the Oilers with players like Tanguay. It's not age and it's not conditioning.
This might be good for his game and longevity going forward, an experience like this, playing with someone like Morrow. He's got the ability to be an effective player late into the twilight of his career, but this shell of a game he's playing isn't going to keep him in the league for very long.
