Going back to the Draft Value chart ( http://statsportsconsulting.com/main...Draftchart.pdf) and take a look at values:
29th overall (assuming the Pens beat the Bruins...which might not happen), that pick is worth 275.
14th is 456 and 44th is worth 196, for a total of 652. That means that tanguay is worth 377 (652 - 275), or about the same as #18 overall. Do you think Detroit would trade Tanguay for the 18th pick straight up? I'll answer that for you: NEVER.

It's never this cut and dry, but I'll definitely concede that I'm likely over valuing Tanguay in my proposal.
