This certainly great for the NHL. It needs this. Its kind of why I secretly cheer for big market US teams, it gets the game we all love the recognition it deserves.

Strangely enough, two Big Bang Theory re-runs were the only thing on cable that had higher numbers in the 18-49 age range on Wednesday, but not by much. The hockey game had more total viewers than anything else on cable Wednesday night:

The hockey game had 3,354,000 total viewers. Tuesday night's NBA game had 8,122,000 total viewers.

Actually, the 3.3 million is the average for the whole game, the number peaked at 4.613 million for the OT:
