This will be the fifth time these two teams have played each other in the playoffs. The Bruins won the first two meetings as they swept the Penguins in the first round quarter finals in 1979 and then 3-2 in the preliminary round in 1980. In the 1991 and 1992 Prince of Wales Conference finals (semi-final or eastern conference final), the Penguins won 4-2 and 4-0 respectively.

One interesting note is that Jaromir Jagr played for the Penguins in both of the conference finals.

During the regular season, the record between these teams was 3-0-0 in favour of the Penguins. All games were decided by one goal and ended in regulation time. The most memorable game was the March 12 game. The Penguins were losing 2-0 with less than seven minutes left in the third period. They scored three goals in 4:15 to win 3-2, Brandon Sutter scored the tying and winning goals.

Vokoun and Rask were in goal for two games while Fleury and Khudobin were in for one game. The Penguins outscored the Bruins 8-5 in the three games. Both teams had two power play goals and zero shorthanded goals. Here are the post game links to the games.
