That overshadows every other part of it, as far as I understand, but I am not Catholic, so I could just be reading the wrong promotional information.

The Virgin Mary is significant in Catholicism, much more so than other Christian sects. I know with my family, the Catholic side displayed way more Mary images whereas the Orthodox members on my grandmother's side stuck almost exclusively to Jesus.
The fact that he died for our sins (not specifically original sin) and created an easier path union with God is the main element of Christianity for sure, but without the martyrdom, it doesn't have the same power to sway (hence the constant reminder in imagery).
