well at least the crucifix didn't show the actual suffering of the person.
Usually they crapped and pissed themselves and were covered with fleas and other insects that basically fed on them. On top of that it was fairly common to either nail the feet on the sides of the crucifix instead of the middle because it was more painful.
In some cases prior to Crucifixion the condemned legs were broken so they would die quicker but while they lived it would be extremely painful to take their weight off of the shoulders.
