I wonder to what extent a service like Car2Go might make sense for this, if the technology was there. You've got a large enough base that mass implementation would actually be significant, the people driving the cars probably aren't as attached to the experience of driving and view it primarily as a convenience, and if you could convince insurance that the automated model is actually safer, then the savings might be significant enough for the company that it's worth implementing. To me, that's the most likely mass implementation scenario, rather than a large number of individual drivers deciding that this is a must-have feature.
