Phoenix Continues revamp in another blockbuster deal
In yet another blockbuster deal in as many days Phoenix GM Sim found a way to shed more cap while getting younger and maintaining a competitive roster.
We were looking at having to pay Ryan Getzlaf the big bucks on our 2nd line behind Kopitar which just didn't work, as it left too many holes elsewhere in the lineup.
We wanted to get younger, cheaper, and get a #2 Centerman that can perfectly handle the role for the right amount of money.
We believe we met both these objectives in this swap.
To New Jersey:
Ryan Getzlaf
Bobby Ryan
To Phoenix:
Taylor Hall
David Krejci
We like this deal as Taylor Hall will be signed to an entry level contract this summer, so we will have 3 years of him at a bargain.
We continue this trend of getting younger, and we hope to build a team with plenty of depth built for the playoffs. We really like the play of Krejci and what he will bring to the 2nd line. Hall is coming off a great NHL season and we expect his play to continue as is his progression as a player.
Thanks to Jersey for the big blockbuster. We wish Getzlaf the best of luck in Jersey where he will be in a position to succeed unlike being buried on the 2nd line here in Phoenix.
We knew we were giving up the best player in this deal with Getz, but we were very pleased bringing in the ELC and a great replacement center in Krejci
